BREAKING: Zamfara deputy governor impeached..

The Zamfara House of Assembly on Wednesday impeached the state deputy governor Mahadi Aliyu from office. This followed the adoption of a motion by Majority Leader, Faruku Dosara (APC -Maradun 1) at plenary in Gusau. The motion came shortly after the House adopted the report of Justice Haladu Tanko panel which investigated alleged cross misconduct and abuse of office against the deputy governor. Speaker Nasiru Muazu, who presided over the sitting, directed the Clerk Saidu Anka, to conduct a voice vote on the impeachment of deputy governor Mahadi Aliyu from office. Twenty out of the 22 lawmakers present, voted in favour of the impeachment and the deputy governor was pronounced impeached.

Group Backs Strike By Nigerian Varsity Lecturers, ASUU, Condemns Proposed Bill To Give Education Loans To Students..

The Revolutionary Socialist Movement (RSM) has declared its support for the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) last Monday.  The group, in a statement issued by Salako Kayode, its Publicity Secretary, noted that it agrees with the demands of the union as this is the only way towards achieving quality education in Nigeria.  The group further stated that it recognises the struggle of the union for the welfare of the ordinary citizens, noting that ASUU had been consistently fighting for a better educational system, particularly with strike actions. It, however, urged ASUU to cooperate with other well-meaning Nigerians in the struggle for political liberalism.  The statement reads in part, “The ASUU strikes always come after all diplomatic avenues are closed by the federal government. National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu has told Nigerian youths that they can only become president of the country after he has become one. The 69-year-old politician said this during a visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi on Sunday. Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Oyo town was part of his engagement with traditional rulers across the six geo-political regions in respect of his 2023 presidential ambition. Speaking in Yoruba, he said, "You won't give room for the elderly to pass and you haven't become president. What if you become president, you will chase us out of town?" NANS threatens nationwide protest as ASUU declares fresh strike.

The National Association of Nigerian Students on Monday condemned the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. NANS President, Asefon Sunday, in a statement, expressed “great disappointment” at the “comprehensive and total” four-week strike declared by ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday. Asefon slammed the Federal Government and the ASUU leadership for failure to resolve their issues amicably without resort to strike. He also said Nigerian students will stage a nationwide protest to demonstrate their dissatisfaction. The PUNCH  had reported that Osodeke at a press conference on Monday said ASUU National Executive Council resolved to embark on the strike as the government has failed to implement the Memorandum of Action it signed with the ASUU in December 2020. Channels Television  gathered that the victim died from injuries sustained by a teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, who reportedly flogged him on Monday, leaving marks on his body. The little boy was said to have fallen sick after the beating and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba. His health condition deteriorated until he eventually died on Saturday morning. The Delta State Commissioner for Basic Education Chika Ossai told Channels Television on Sunday that the school was not approved by the state government. The protesters are popular comedian, Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni and Michael Adenola.  Both activists were arrested and thrown inside a Black Maria while protesting against the premature reopening of the Lekki toll gate.  Recall that some aggrieved youths had held a peaceful protest at the toll gate on the said date following a decision of the judicial panel of inquiry to reopen the gate. UPDATE: Death Toll In Lagos Collapsed Building Rises To FiveAs at Saturday night, three persons had been confirmed dead.

The bodies of the deceased persons were recovered from the rubble of the building, which was under construction when it collapsed on Saturday.  One of the lifeless bodies recovered on Sunday was that of a student on industrial training, pushing the death toll to five.  As at Saturday night, three persons had been confirmed dead.  Two persons have been rescued alive, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Public Relations Officer, Okunbor Nosa said. The incident happened on Akanbi Crescent, close to the University of Lagos. First responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations. According to the PRO, the recovered persons from the rubble were two adult males while the "five dead persons were also males". Towards ensuring security during the conduct of the Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Police Command on Thursday said there will be restriction of movement from 12 midnight of Friday 11th Feb to 4 pm on Saturday 12th Feb in Abuja. The restriction however exempts students who were already scheduled to write their WAEC examination nationwide as well as other essential workers. A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Ajibola Heritage was reported dead after falling into a soakaway at BVer hostel. It was gathered that the deceased, a part two student of Linguistics and African Languages, was trying to spread her clothes when she mistakenly stepped on planks used to cover part of the septic tank and plank collapse under her leg, then fell into the tank. Findings revealed that part of the soakaway had already collapsed and was covered with a plank to cover the exposed part.
